Technology in Education
3 07 2008This past week, I worked a technology conference called NECC – National Education Computing Conference. During this conference, nearly 13,000 people came from all over the United States (and the world) to learn and check out the latest technology and methods being used in education. I – and this should not surprise you – assisted with technical support for several “model classrooms” during the conference. While sometimes it was fun and sometimes it was frustrating, the one thing I realized is that technology’s rapid proliferation is only going to get faster. This is no joke – we are now teaching our kindergarteners to create podcasts; 5th grade students are making professional quality videos using iMovie and iPhoto; wikis, video tele-conferencing, and back-channel chats enable teachers to communicate and engage students on an incredible scale.
So what does all this mean? It means that the times they are a-changin’. The generation that will enter the business world in 10 years will have grown up with their hands on a computer – they’ve never known life without one. Technology will continue to advance; becoming faster, cheaper, and more efficient. Are you taking advantage of the latest trends in tech?
